Tree Preservation Orders

In both town and country, trees are a vital part of our green and rural environment. In recognition of this, local planning authorities have specific powers to protect trees, by making Tree Preservation Orders.

Special provisions also apply within Conservation Areas designated by local planning authorities.

Simply put, where a tree is protected, it is an offence, with fines in a Magistrates Court, of up to £20,000, to cut down, top, lop, uproot, wilfully damage, or destroy a tree without the planning authority's permission.

MHDC have started a two year project to update and review their TPO database. In Ripple Parish some of these go back to 1971, and many of the referenced trees are no longer there. As soon as results are available we will ensure that all concerned properties are advised.
